This program is offered for beginning students with no prior study of Nepali. It is designed to both facilitate and accelerate the study of colloquial Nepali for students and researchers in Nepal, and for anyone simply wishing to communicate directly with the Nepali people. The six week program will provide students with a basic command of spoken Nepali and elementary reading skills. It will also provide an essential foundation for further independent studies, research and field visits.

The level of intensity of the program is high and students are expected to invest considerable time and effort in order to meet class requirements and academic expectations. Students who successfully complete this course will be well on their way towards a high degree of proficiency in Nepali.

As an integral part of the Nepali course, participants live with local Nepali families that have been carefully selected by the Centre for Buddhist Studies. This provides students with intensive exposure to Nepali language and a chance to experience life among people in the local community. Families provide breakfast and dinner to the students, while lunch is provided Monday to Friday at the Institute’s restaurant.


Accreditation
The course is accredited at the Centre for Buddhist Studies for Nepali I and Nepali II (6 credits total).

US$ 1,865. Price includes tuition, accommodation, all meals (breakfast and dinner with Nepali families, lunch at the Institute’s restaurant) and tours.
