In Praise of Learning

Listen to the Buddha's teaching and you become pure, serene and gentle.

Contemplate and you gain confidence in liberation.

Meditate and you discover your inner natural wisdom.

Therefore, strive hard to listen, contemplate and meditate!

The faculty at RYI consists of both monastic professors (Khenpos) as well as international instructors trained in the traditional academic disciplines. As a crucial element of the training in Buddhist philosophy, courses by monastic professors on classical Buddhist scriptures follow the format and curriculum of a traditional Buddhist monastic education. Currently, the Centre for Buddhist Studies at RYI is the only institution to offer this traditional form of learning as an integrated part of long-term academic studies.

For those wishing to study for shorter periods, most courses listed on this website are also available on a non-degree basis.
