The Faculty at the Centre for Buddhist Studies is made up of professors and instructors trained in traditional academic disciplines as well as teachers from traditional Buddhist backgrounds.

ImageCatherine Dalton

Has been translating and teaching Tibetan at RYI since 2003 and directed several Summer Intensive Tibetan programs held at RYI.She holds an MA Degree from the Centre for Buddhist Studies, and is now head of the Translator Training Program.

ImageAndreas Doctor

Has taught at RYI since 1997 and is currently the Director of Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies and is the author and translator of several books on Buddhism.

Born in Lhoka, in southern Central Tibet, Khenpo was ordained as a monk at the age of 14 at the Sakya Monastery Gongar Chode. At the age of 18, he left Tibet and travelled to India where he studied at H.E. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche's Shedra at Bir for 10 years. After graduation, he taught at Dzongsar Khyentse Shedra until 2000 when he was invited to Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery where he presently teaches in both the monastic Shedra and at the Rangjung Yeshe Institute.

ImageSherab Dorje

Born in Kyirong, Central Tibet, Khenpo received monastic ordination from Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche in 1985 and took up residence at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery. In 1989, Khenpo Sherab Dorje joined the Nyingma Institute at Namdroling Monastery in South India, and studied there for 11 years, to receive the degree of Khenpo. Upon completing his studies, Khenpo Sherab Dorje was sent to Shugseb Nunnery in Dharmsala where he taught in the nuns Shedra for several years. In 2003, he returned to Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery where he presently teaches in both the monastic Shedra and the Rangjung Yeshe Institute.

ImageHilary Herdman

Is an instructor of Tibetan language and Buddhist history and philosophy at RYI and a contributor to translations of Buddhist philosophical works. She holds an MA degree in Buddhist Studies.

Has been a translator and instructor at RYI since 2002. She has contributed as an editor to translated works on Buddhist philosophy, holds an MA degree in Buddhist Studies and is now head of the RYI Online Learning Program.

ImageGregory Sharkey, SJ

Is a member of the Jesuits and director of the Boston College program at CBS-RYI. He did his graduate studies in Oxford's Oriental Institute and specializes in Himalayan religious traditions, particularly the Buddhism of the Newar and Tamang communities.
